News today hitting both the Beer and Metal worlds is that the Iconic, legendary, and a personal favorite to BeerMetalDude, Heavy Metal band, Iron Maiden has teamed up with British brewery, Robinsons to create their own beer respectfully named, The Trooper!
Iron Maiden is a worldwidely known Heavy Metal band who has graced us with such hits as “Iron Maiden”, “Wasted Years”, “Aces High”, “The Trooper”, and many many more throughout their still ongoing career.
Robinsons Brewery seems to have a lot of beers to offer, but here in the states, and locally for me, I have only seen two of their beers sold in stores, “Old Tom”, a Dark Strong Ale (and pretty good too) and “Old Tom Ginger”, a Ginger infused Ale (and not so good! Bleh!). So with only two of their beers tasted, and having a 50% liking so far, I am really hoping that this beer does not dissapoint. In the words of one of my friends, and band mates “I hope it tastes like war, death, and gun powder…haha!” Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Oliver Robinson, Managing Director of Robinsons Brewery said about The Trooper, “It is a premium British ale with true depth of character and flavour. Not only do Iron Maiden genuinely enjoy a good pint of cask ale, but so do many of their fans – and they have an important part to play in our customer base. This partnership works for both of us. Music and beer are great treats for the senses in their own right, but the combination is very powerful. Authentic collaborations such as this are invaluable not only to our company but to the industry as a whole, because it shows that the world of real ale is more than just manufacturing, it is liquid artistry by the people who brew it – and for the people who drink it.”
Is there anything that Bruce Dickinson doesn’t do? He fronts one fo the most iconic Heavy Metal bands of all time, he is a pilot, among a lot fo other things. Well now you can add beer maker to his resume, as he was present and played a major role in the development of the unique flavour of the beer.
When announcing ther partnership, Bruce Dickinson said “I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavour and texture that is Trooper. I love it.”
As a HUGE fan of both beer and Iron Maiden, I really hope this beer becomes available here in my area, and I really hope it doesn’t disapoint. Iron Maiden has been one of my favorite bands since I was a young trooper, myself. I have seen them numerous of times since the 80’s, early on with my late Uncle George! (Beer and Iron Maiden, George. What do you think buddy?) Robinsons is a true real ale brewery, brewing up traditional heritage beers such as Old Tom (a winner of World’s Best Ale) and Unicorn (a gold medal winner at the Brewing Industry International Awards). They also have a great number of young ales such as Dizzy Blonde, Hoptimus Prime, Hop Circle, and many more. Oh, and did I mention that the Robinson family has owned the Unicorn Inn, where the brewery stands since 1838.
