ragingbitchBeers from Flying Dog Brewing Company are also part of my early days as a youngster, first getting into craft beer. I was always a fan of their labels, and still am, as they use famed artist, Ralph Steadman. He is famous for his artwork used by Hunter S. Thompson, even having his artwork on movies about Thompson, like Where the Buffalo Roam and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I remember that is what attracted me to these beers at first. After having several Flying Dog beers over the years, I have discovered that this is a damn good brewery who makes damn fine beers.

I used  a Left Coast Brewing Company Voo Doo pint glass for this beer. This raging bitch poured a very nice looking clear amber color with a thick three finger wide light tan head, which dwindled down to about a finger wide head, which retained and left sticky lacing down the glass.

I really liked the aroma of this beer. It was very inviting. The smell was full of citrus hops but not overpowering. There is also a good mix of Belgian yeast present, highlighted by a subtle banana-like smell. I can also pick up on a little bread and caramel notes from the malts. Very good balanced in the nose of this bitch!

Taste is everything I expected it to be. The hop characters present themselves first, as a citrus, piney flavors hit the palate first. As the hop bitterness lingers from the beginning of the drink, there is a caramel taste in the background. The finish of this drink hits you with an exotic fruit note, similar to bananas. A well rounded taste.

The body is of medium thickness with a clean, crisp feel. There is good carbonation, and a slight alcohol burn to it. Not a chugger, for sure. This one is good to take your time drinking.

Coup-D-Etat-coverOverall, I love this beer. It’s damn near perfect. As I said earlier, this is a damn good brewery who makes damn fine beers!

Metal Connection: Easy! I went with the most raging bitch I know of, Wendy O. Williams and her band, The Plasmatics. Here is the song “The Damned” from their 1982 album, Coup d’Etat. This music video was shown on Beavis & Butthead. Cool song, and cool video. Enjoy!
